The Orozmani Archaeological Field School offers a unique and immersive experience in the Republic of Georgia, focusing on the excavation of a significant Early Stone Age site dating back 1.8 million years. Located near the crucial Dmanisi hominin site, participants will directly contribute to uncovering evidence of early human presence in Eurasia, including fossils, tools, and potentially more hominin remains. Under the guidance of the experienced Dmanisi Team and through lectures from international experts, Orozmani field school students will develop essential archaeological and paleoanthropological skills, gaining hands-on experience in excavation, recording, analysis, and experimental techniques.

Beyond the scientific endeavors, the field school provides a rich cultural and social environment. Participants will reside in a shared dig house, enjoy delicious Georgian cuisine and wine, and connect with fellow participants and organizers during relaxed evening gatherings. The academic component of the program centers on providing participants with a strong foundation in archaeological and paleoanthropological methods relevant to the Early Stone Age. This includes practical instruction on excavation techniques, precise recording methods, operation of a Total Station, photogrammetry, and the typological classification of finds. Furthermore, students will engage in experimental archaeology, specifically learning ancient stone knapping techniques. Complementing the fieldwork are regular lectures delivered by international experts covering a range of topics such as paleoanthropology, geology, archaeozoology, and site formation, offering a comprehensive theoretical understanding of the research.
