Summary

At Summer Language Institute, teens and young (or not-so-young) adults build their English communication skills through interactive, communicative lessons with experienced teachers from the USA, Canada, and Europe. SLI offers classes at every English level with a focus on all language skills – speaking, listening, reading, and writing – and even some exciting subjects like drama or leadership. In the evenings students can choose from a range of clubs and activities that are designed to build community while providing more opportunities to use English in real-life situations. everyone can learn a new skill, get to know a different culture, and show their talents through the extracurricular program.
SLI students live in LCC’s modern residence halls, where they can meet new people and make friends from around the world. Residence Life staff ensure a safe, enriching, and fun environment for all. SLI is an exciting living-learning community where everyone’s confidence soars as the learn and use English every day.

Academics

Students receive 90 hours of English language instruction with experienced teachers from the USA, Canada, and Europe. Courses are offered at every level from Elementary to Advanced; the curriculum is a blend of general English language classes and classes in specific language skills and subject areas.

Extracurriculars

The extracurricular program is designed to provide additional exposure and practice in English communication skills while developing students’ interests, building community, and having fun. The program includes a wide range of club offerings each week in areas, including arts and crafts, various sports/dance/movement activities, discussion groups centering on life issues/personal development/spiritual growth, cultural learning, and more. Staff provide program-wide events each week such as Tea and Games, Movie and Chat, BBQ party, and Talent Night. Residence Life staff also provide floor-specific events.

Accommodation

LCC’s residence halls are designed as living-learning spaces that emphasize community-building. Each suite houses 4-6 students with beds, desks, shared sinks, toilet and shower, refrigerator, and cupboards. Each floor offers a large shared kitchen and lounge space available to that floor’s residence for preparing and eating meals and socializing with neighbors. Meals (not included in the housing cost) are available in the campus cafeteria for reasonable prices; various meal plans are available to SLI students for purchase.
