The Summer Short Courses at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London offer an enriching exploration of the performing arts, catering to learners of all levels, from beginners to advanced students. With topics such as Acting for Beginners, Acting for Camera, Playing Shakespeare, and joining a Summer Theatre Company, these courses range from a few days to three weeks. Led by experienced professionals, they are perfect for those looking to delve into acting, build new skills, or experience world-class theatre training.
Participants gain access to Central’s esteemed voice and movement coaches and have the unique opportunity to attend a live Shakespeare play in London. The courses engage students with Shakespeare’s texts and characters through hands-on exercises, preparing them to make interpretative performance choices. Each course culminates in an informal showing, giving students a chance to showcase their growth and talents in a supportive setting.
The course intensively covers Shakespearean texts, focusing on verse structure, language breakdown, and performance skills. With Central’s educators, students learn to read acting cues inherent in Shakespeare’s work, making interpretative choices and honing performance techniques. A key prerequisite is a pre-prepared Shakespearean monologue.
